Disney Mediterranean Cruise: Villefranche, France {Cruise Day 3}

Our first stop on the cruise was near Nice, France. The port was actually in the town of Villefranche, France. This was a tenured stop, a.k.a. we had to ride a small boat to the shore. This is the one stop that we took a Disney organized excursion. It was called: Eze, Nice and French Wines.

The tour started by hopping on a coach bus headed towards Eze. Eze is a cute little town built up on a hill. It has little walking streets with quaint shops winding up to the castle (or palace). In order to see the castle you needed to pay to go into the garden. We didn’t have time to do this on our tour.

It was fun walking around the tiny maze of streets.

The next stop was the trip to Nice for the wine tasting. It took place in the basement of a wine store. It was a nice place with lots of atmosphere. We were given three wines to taste and some different cheese and crackers. They told us about the history of wine in the area and the background of the wines we were drinking.

The kids were given grape juice and some snacks. They even made the kids feel special by giving them one of their juices in a wine glass. A couple of their faces lit up with surprise as they were poured their own glass of “wine” out of a decanter into a real wine glass. They were then showed how to swirl and smell it before taking a sip.

After the tasting was over we had a little bit of time to explore Nice. Our family took a trip to get Gelato and then took a stroll along the beach. We when spotted a statue / water fountain and made our way towards that before heading back to the tour bus.

This tour only lasted for half a day. The second half of the day we explored Villefranche (the town our port was in). We had brought our beach gear and took a dip before heading back to the ship.

Tips for going to the beach at Villefranche:

  • It is crowed! Don’t expect a ton of space.
  • It was hot! There was no shade unless you bring an umbrella. Also this is a stone beach. The stones are very hot from the sun. I would recommend flip flops or something to cover your feet.
  • They do have a coin paid bathroom. It is small and not that clean.

I don’t like going in open water so I can’t tell you how great it was. My husband and brother said it was awesome and refreshing after the hot day. I personal didn’t stay that long, I decided to head back to the ship and hang out by the pool.
