The day at La Spezia has to be my favorite of the trip! While many families traveled off to see Pisa or Florence we decided to stick to the coast and visit the towns of Cinque Terre.
The day started by hopping on a tender boat taking us to shore. One fun thing to do when on this boat is sit at the back. You can get some fun shots of the family with the Disney ship in the background.

After ashore, head to the ferry station: just a couple minutes walk from where you are dropped off. Here you can buy a day pass to ride the ferries and pick up a schedule. This ferry will take you to five coastal towns. The only concern for the day was watching the time for heading back to the ship but other than that we relaxed and explored a couple of these little towns.
The first stop was in Portovenere. This town was fun with its brightly colored buildings, old stone walls, winding streets and spectacular views.
The second stop was in Riomaggiore. The first thing that my sister and I said when we turn the corner and saw the town for the first time was “I am pretty sure this is on my Pinterest wall”. And sure enough, after checking it was.
This is just a beautiful town. We stopped here and had lunch. My sister, husband, and one of my cousins went swimming and cliff jumping!
At this point we ran out of time to make any more long stops plus we were all getting a little tired. We decided just to ride the ferry to last town (Monterosso) and see the view from the boat.
We had just enough time in Monterosso to go find some gelato before heading back on the return trip. This would have been the ideal town to have a beach day in. It was much flatter than the rest.
I would love to go back to this place again and spend a day in each little town.
That night we had reservations at Palo. It was amazing! So worth the extra money! All I am going to say it get the Chocolate soufflé, you will not be disappointed!
